Learning | Opportunity | Respect | Safety
At LHCS Coburg we offer a VCE Vocational Major program for students in Years 11 and 12. Students are supported by their Home Group teacher, our whole-school wellbeing team and careers advisors, and access mentoring through the INLLEN (Inner Northern Local Learning and
Employment Network) Vocational Mentoring Exchange.
All students take part in a VCE Vocational Major program, including VET studies based primarily in our onsite trade workshops (Automotive, Building and Construction, Furniture Making and Hospitality). Students undertake study in Literacy Skills, Numeracy Skills, Personal Development Skills, and Work Related Skills, and undertake VET studies in their chosen fields. Students may also choose to personalise their own program with the addition of art therapy or industry work placements.
LHCS Coburg’s new Year 10 program has been designed to cater for young people from the local area who prefer applied learning opportunities, and who intend to study VCE-VM as their senior school pathway. The program is designed as a full-time (9am-3pm, Monday to Friday) program which is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum, but which allows for far more practical, hands-on and experiential learning opportunities than a traditional neighbourhood school provides. The subjects link with community based real-world and relevant applications, and provide students with essential literacy and numeracy skills, but also 21st century skills and knowledge such as problem solving, teamwork, emotional intelligence and communication. Students will develop foundational hand-on knowledge and skills aligned with senior school VET industries such as Construction, Cookery, Horticulture, Outdoor Education and Community Services. These skills will be honed and applied through week long blocks of Work Experience each term.
