Years 7- 10 | VCE | VCAL | VET | Careers | Extra Curricular Programs
Students at Lynall Hall can now participate in a new senior school certificate
called VCAL; ‘The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning’. Applied learning
means that it is a more hands on course. VCAL aims to develop skills which
will help students get ready for further education, training and learning.
VCAL has three levels – Foundation, Intermediate and Senior. Senior is the
highest level. Students would start at the level that matches their needs
and abilities. There are no entry requirements into VCAL.The successful
completion of one level would normally take one year.
Students who undertake VCAL at Lynall Hall will develop a learning program
with a mix of VCAL and VCE units, selecting units in each of the four VCAL
strands.
There are four areas ‘strands’ where units must be completed Literacy and
Numeracy, Industry Specific Skills, Work Related Skills and Personal Development
Skills.
The following table sets out the units on offer at Lynall Hall in each strand. Remember that each VCAL level (Foundation, Intermediate and Senior ) requires the completion of 10 units (one VCE unit = one VCAL unit).
The VCAL program will help develop students’ literacy and numeracy, develop
work related skills, industry specific skills and develop personal and employability
skills. The VCAL will prepare students for entry into TAFE certificate courses,
apprenticeships, other further education and training and work.
Students can enrol in VCAL and switch to VCE and vice versa. Lynall Hall
will continue to offer a comprehensive VCE program
