Curricular Programs

English:
The English program aims to develop in students the ability to speak, listen,
think, read, and write effectively with confidence, purpose and enjoyment.
We have studied a range of texts and media issues.
Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE):
This semester, we have studied society and environment. Themes explored have
been Water, ANZACS, and general knowledge, through the use of a quiz program.
The students have also undertaken a comprehensive reading and writing program.
Literacy strategies have also been incorporated into this subject area.
Maths:
This course is presented as a combination of problem solving, skills practice,
application exercises and practical work. Topics covered this semester include;
Area & Perimeter Measurements, Percentages, Graphs , Geometry, Algebra ,
Basic Maths Skills, Indices and Statistics.
Health and Physical Education:
In Physical Education the aim of the program is to engage students in healthy
physical activity. They are also provided with opportunities to improve
their ability to be "team players". In Health the aim is to improve students'
knowledge of a healthy lifestyle, and assist them in implementing healthy
living practices and negating unhealthy practices. Both areas are designed
for life- long action.
Science:
In Science we aim to develop students' aptitudes, processing and thinking
skills. These are explored through a range of scientific procedural and project
tasks relating to the Environment. Students are encouraged to participate
in the school's Habitat Program as part of their assessment.
Art and Graphics:
In this course students are introduced to a variety of graphic and drawing
techniques. Students have the opportunity to be involved in a range of creative
activities including painting, collage, photo-montage, stencilling, and mosaics
and screen printing.
Information Technology:
Students are introduced to a range of software and are encouraged to develop their
skills in areas such as word processing, image manipulation, graphic design
and internet research. Hardware such as scanners, digital cameras and CD burners
are also incorporated into the course.
Electives:
Students participated in the following classes periods 3-7 on a Wednesday:
PE: focused on individualised skill improvement, combined
with team play. Research; students acquired skills in collecting information
using searches, dictionaries, street directory maps and library references...
Maths: students used the interactive maths teacher software
to complete various mathematical tasks which provided automatic feedback
and scores. History- areas of study included, convicts, transportation,
appreciating writing styles and problem solving.
LOTE: students studied the Greek language and culture,
including the Olympic Games and Greek Mythology.
